About The Author
Point Mutation
A mutation consisting of a change of only one nucleotide in a DNA molecule.

At "hot spots" (i.e., certain locations on the DNA within some organisms), numerous point mutations can occur.

In the case of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), the same point mutation occurs at the same location (on the DNA within some organisms) across a population of individuals of that organism.
